Azathioprine

Azathioprine is a prodrug that belongs to the immunosuppressant drug group and is used in autoimmune disorders like systemic lupus erythematosus, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, pemphigus, Behcet's disease, myasthenia gravis, and in organ transplant patients to prevent graft rejection. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, bone marrow suppression, acute pancreatitis, and increased cancer risk. Therefore, it is contraindicated in pregnant and lactating women.
