Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My newborn baby is 11 days old. For the past 36 hours, she did not pass stools but urinates now and then. Do I need to wait patiently or need to consult a pediatrician soon? She is taking Flacol pediatric drop along with the feed three times a day and Norsol nasal drop is also used. Her appetite is very good and my wife is unable to give adequate breast milk to my baby. We are giving formula milk almost five to six times a day. Does it hamper her immune system? After every feed, she gives hiccups continuously for 10 to 15 minutes and it is very terrifying for us. The hiccups shake very horribly. We burp her and it stops after 20 to 25 minutes. Is there any other technique that helps to burp her properly?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is normal for children below the age of six months to pass stool 10 to 20 times a day or once in two or three days. Both are normal and it is not considered as constipation or diarrhea. It does not require treatment. Treatment is required only when there is fever, lethargy, or refusal to feed. Hiccups are also normal and there is nothing to stop them. You can keep the child at a hip angle of 35 degrees to the ground. Formula milk will not cause a hamper to the immune system.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
