Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My son has been suffering from constipation for the last 30 days. His stool is extremely hard and he literally suffers while doing it. He has to put a lot of pressure and do it. He drinks plenty of water, fruit juices and bananas too but still no effect. Previously the situation was not so. He used to do regularly and more or less normal stool but last few days he has been doing it in an interval of two to three days. His apetite is normal and is having regular food. Please suggest me some medicine such that this problem goes away and he does the stool regularly.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing us and I understand your concern.

Can you please confirm the age and weight of your child? This can be due to low fibers in the diet, so please continue with vegetables and give him lukewarm water in the morning. It will help him to pass stool easily. And a small reason can be an iron deficiency and vitamin deficiency. So in such cases, you should do a blood CBC (Complete blood count) and iron profile test. Please tell me the weight and age, and what is the color of his stool? Please answer so I can prescribe some syrup. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My child is now 2 years 10 months old, his weight is 14.5 kg, and the stool is yellowish.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You should do a blood test first of all. And for now, you can give your son,

Syrup Cremaffin (liquid paraffin and milk of Magnesia) 60 ml syrup and give 2.5 ml only once at bedtime for three days.

And everything will be normal, and please do a blood test.

Patient's Query

Thank you, doctor, for your reply.

Can you please suggest any diet for him which will also help him in recovery?

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

He is still young, so you should give him soup with vegetables and baby food with milk. And fruits like apple and banana. And give him more fluids from time to time because the leading cause of constipation is drinking less water. So frequently provide him with water. And in the morning, one small cup lukewarm water. Apart form that, if he has itching in the anal area or abdomen pain. Please let me know. If anything else, please message me anytime.

Thank you.
