Hello doctor,

My baby has a fever, runny nose, weight loss, coated tongue, and loss of appetite. Her WBC is 19000 per microliter, platelets are 3.25 lakh per microliter, RBC is 4.23/L, and hemoglobin is 7 gm/dL.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Before I suggest anything, there is one thing you mentioned, the age of your baby is 4 years and the weight is 7.26 kg. Please re-confirm these numbers. If these are correct then it is something to worry about and needs complete evaluation as early as possible. For runny nose, you can give these medicines after consulting your specialist doctor:

  1. Syrup Claritin (Loratadine) - dose after reconfirming the weight.
  2. Normal saline nasal drops - two drops in each nostril every four hours.

The blood report is showing hemoglobin of 7 gm/dL for this you need to get the following tests:

  1. Reticulocyte count.
  2. Serum iron levels.
  3. TIBC (total iron-binding capacity).
  4. Serum ferritin.
  5. Peripheral smear analysis.

Please share some more information related to her birth weight, diet, milestones, any blood disorder in the family, etc. Connect with me with all reports and information. I will advise you accordingly.

Take care.

Thank you.
