Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My daughter is 5 years old suffering from a fever for the last two days. We are giving Calpol 250 mg one and a half teaspoons every four hours. After giving Calpol, the temperature comes down. But immediately the temperature is increasing. Today our doctor suggested having Monocef antibiotic. We have given two dosages til now. Is there anything to worry about because the fever is coming continuously? Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Generally, fever lasts for 2 to 3 days. If it is viral or if it is bacterial, since you have started the antibiotic it takes 24 to 48 hours for the antibiotic to control infection. So, the fever may be there but the intensity will decrease gradually over 2 to 3 days. If the fever does not subside within 2 to 3 days of starting the antibiotic I suggest you go for further evaluation like blood tests. Nothing to be worried about.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
