Can antibiotic suspensions be used for loose motions in a 2-month-old baby?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 55-day-old baby girl is suffering from loose motions. Can we give her Oflox OZ suspension?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Loose motions are normal at this age as the baby's gut adapts to her meal, provided she is passing adequate urine and is breastfeeding well. It is fine to have zero to six motions per day. I suggest you to ensure her adequate feeding and hydration through breastfeeding. Oflox OZ suspension (Ofloxacin and Ornidazole) is not recommended at such an early age.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
