Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I get redness and cut like lesions on groin immediately after sex, also I have noticed burning and irritation. I do not know if it is herpes or just skin irritation from contact or friction.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

These are fissures, usually in groin area infection can present in the form of fissures and cuts. Other causes can be Crohn disease but your complaint is acute one so most probably this is an infection. Do not worry, it will get better with proper medication and treatment. Try to maintain hygiene of the area and avoid sexual contact until you get better. Take tablet Co-Amoxiclav 1000 mg two times a day for one week. Apply Fusidic acid ointment two times a day over the lesions. Take pain killer tablets like Ibuprofen for pain relief. I would like to know if your partner has any such problem?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

It was a new partner and claimed to be free of STDs. I used protection as well. I am really relieved to know that it is not something like herpes. Thank you for the quick response.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, sometimes infection is subclinical and the carrier does not know about it. Herpes is more likely to occur at penis if it comes in contact with carrier person and less likely if you are using protection. So main thing is to maintain hygiene of the area now and kindly let me know the treatment response after one week.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

A very small pimple or red mark popped up underneath the fissures. Antibiotic ointment and Hydrocortisone seem to help. Herpes would not just pop up one pimple at a time correct? Is it usually not in clusters with obvious whiteheads? I just want to be absolutely sure. I do not have an STD.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, herpes present in form of grouped vesicles (fluid filled) and not like fissures. In herpes, the first lesion is vesicle that breaks down to form an ulcer. I have not seen any such lesions in your case. Do not worry, you will get better.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
