Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I want to know the other possible reason for the bad smell coming from my nose. It has been there for four months. I already went to an ENT doctor, who diagnosed me with laryngopharyngeal reflux and gave me antibiotics and PPI. After two weeks, the smell was still there, so I decided to come back and have the doctor check my throat and nose with an endoscopy, and then she saw nothing that might cause the smell. Then I went to a dentist to check if the smell was because of something wrong in the mouth. She cleaned it and then said that the gum was healthy and some teeth needed sealant. After a few days, it is still there. I started ditching school because of this. And lastly, I went to a gastroenterologist, and the doctor said that it might be acid reflux and gave me a PPI too. I take Omeprazole and vitamins. I am out of options and trying to see if foreign doctors know this. Many thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

Do not worry. Let me tell you, bad breath in the mouth can be due to the following reasons:

  • Smoking, pan, and snuff use.
  • Stomach disorders like acidity, constipation, and gas formation.
  • Jaundice or liver problems, and any problems in the kidney.
  • Chest infection.
  • Trying foods like onion and garlic.
  • Cavities in teeth.
  • Poor oral hygiene.
  • Diabetes mellitus.
  • Sinus formation, sinusitis, or nose infection.
  • Habits like alcohol intake.

Assess yourself first if you are having any of the problems. I tell you halitosis or bad breath needs redressal of problem as well, so you need thorough clinical and oral examination.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
