Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 24 years old. Not too long ago, I got a small rash on the head of my penis; it was like three to four little red bumps. It was a bit itchy but not to where I would always feel the nerve to itch. I saw online that using antibacterial aloe vera gel would help. And it did go away after like three days. But then every now and then I get the same rash. It is not itchy, or I do not notice it until I look. No blisters of any kind and it just itches occasionally. I am not circumcised so maybe I got an infection. I do not know what it could be.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have attached the pictures. I feel like it may be a fungus.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is balanitis, the infection of glans, clinically bacterial although candida can also cause it.

Are you sexually active? Does your partner suffer any problem regarding infection? Do you have white curd like discharge from urethra?

Here is the prescription. Kindly follow this after consulting a physician.

1. Tab Co-amoxiclav (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) 1 g bd for one week.

2. Apply a combination of Gentamicin plus Clotrimazole cream twice daily.

3. Maintain hygiene of area. Wash daily with soap and water.

4. Avoid dettol and other irritants.

5. Please use condoms. Also, it is better to avoid intercourse until it gets better. And, yes for future I will suggest you go for circumcision because it will decrease the chances of infection in this area. Get well soon.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have always had sexual intercourse with a condom. And my partner did not have the infection. And, no discharge from the urethra. Is balanitis curable? I will follow the prescription! Thanks for your help.
