Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter has had recurring vomiting and stomach cramping intermittently since the last eight months. Barium meal has shown 'gastritis' with a possible duodenal band and the small bowel series reflects some matting of the Ileum. I am not sure what all of this means and the tests do not appear to provide a conclusive diagnosis.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Gastritis reflects simply a consequence of chronic acidity and for that, I suggest the following :

  1. A combination of Pantoprazole (proton pump inhibitor) and Domperidone (anti-emitic) once daily for at least a month.
  2. A soft and blend diet.
  3. Take a walk after every meal.

Now, the term matting of ileum creates a doubt about the possibility of Crohn's disease, which is an Inflammatory bowel disease. I suppose she needs a CT (computed tomography) scan as well as a colonoscopy for further evaluation.

I hope it helps you. If you have any further queries, please ask me.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

The exact terminology from the small bowel series states 'There is matting of the ileum, but this is non-specific. A granulomatous disease should be entertained. The mucosae of the jejunum appear normal. The radiological findings are consistent with a non-specific matting of the ileum'.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

In that case, tuberculosis or Crohn's disease is a consideration. The term 'non-specific' does not rule out these diseases. However, the possibility of the diseases is low based on these reports.

If you have any further queries, please ask me.
