Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a 13-year-old boy child with extreme fear of swear words and gets very uncomfortable hearing when other kids say them. He is also very scared of having the talk in school. I think he might have an emotional breakdown if this happens according to his teachers. Is there a name for either of these bizarre disorders or behaviors?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Children develop their views as per the teachings of parents, teachers, peers, and other environmental things. All these together with their genetic constitution develop their nature, personality, and belief system. It seems he is a very pious person with too much attention to wrongful or sinful acts. As far as these things are not causing any problems in his relationship with peers, studies, and other day-to-day activities, it is harmless and fine. You can always sit with him and discuss his beliefs, and his logic and can advise him to be a little more practical. If that does not work you might go for therapy online or offline. We may need to explore his other thoughts like if there is magical thinking.
