Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have both diffuse and localized muscle fasciculation for five months now. I have muscle fasciculation localized to my hip area. It twitches into small muscle fiber. Sometimes I cannot feel it. I consulted a neurologist before two months. A clinical examination was done. I have done blood work and MRI. It showed a bulging C7 disc. My neurologist told me it as BFS. Does BFS cause constant, repetitive, and localized twitching in the hip area?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Fasciculation occurs in seventy percent of the population. You can have fasciculation without any weakness, atrophy, or other symptoms. BFS (benign fasciculation syndrome) is a possibility. It is common in medical care workers and people with psychiatric disorders. Anxiety can play a role. Even BFS can progress to ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) without any neurologic signs. Stop worrying about it. If you have anxiety, then you may require medications to treat it.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have twitching for six months now. Is it a good sign to have twitching without any accompanying weakness? Is it good to have constant twitching on the same muscle?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You have twitching in one muscle for the past six months. You have twitching without any wasting, weakness, and any spread to other muscle groups. This condition does not suggest ALS. There is no chance to have ALS or BFS due to the present symptom. You can have simple fasciculations and you can try to do exercise, relaxation techniques, and meditation to get resolved. There is no need to worry for the twitching present in one muscle for six months.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
