Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My father is 56 years old and has recently complained of difficulty urinating. I took him to a nearby specialist, and he was diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia. I have surfed a little about this condition, and as per my understanding, it has no serious complications. But my concern is that does BPE have any relation to prostate cancer?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

More information and details are needed to give a conclusive answer to your problem. Benign prostate enlargement (BPE) can range from mild to severe; thus, its treatment varies according to the stage. In the initial stages, medication is used, but in later stages, surgery is needed. So, BPE in higher stages has many serious complications. It is stages decided based on symptoms, and few investigates. BPE and prostatic cancer are two different diseases (though in the same organ); they may sometimes come together. When there is suspicion of cancer based on clinical features, few scans and blood tests are done to rule out cancer. As I said, there is much other information regarding exact symptoms, and reports are needed to reach the exact conclusion.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
