Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 25-year-old female and have had beta thalassemia trait for the last ten years. My doctor told me to marry a guy with a negative blood group because my blood group is O-positive. Is it to prevent our child not being affected by thalassemia? So what do I do now? Avoid marriage or marry a guy with a negative blood group or anyone else?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You should try to avoid marriage with a thalassemia minor patient to avoid a thalassemia major child. To rule out thalassemia minor, investigate your partner by hemoglobin (HB) electrophoresis using by HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) method. You can marry a negative blood group, do not worry about that. But rule out the thalassemia minor report of your partner first, then we will discuss further if needed.

Thank you.
