Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 24-year-old working girl. Yesterday, I had sex with my partner for the second time after four months. It was my eighth day of periods, that is, one day after my periods gets over. We used a condom for protection. It was a little rough sex as I found that I am bleeding after sex and have some vaginal pain also. I was told that it might be a cut. Please tell me can I still be pregnant? I am freaking out because I do not want to get pregnant. This vaginal bleeding, is it safe?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The first possibility is that you are pregnant. The risk of pregnancy after using a male condom varies from two to 15 %. As this act was less than 48 hours ago, you may need emergency contraception, either emergency pills or the insertion of IUCD (intrauterine contraceptive device). The other possibility for bleeding after intercourse could be due to a small laceration on the vaginal wall which can be detected via speculum examination. The other possible cause is an infection around the cervix which can be detected via a swab test. A small non-dangerous growth on the cervix (polyp) may also cause contact bleeding after sexual intercourse.

I suggest you see a gynecologist as soon as possible.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Can I take an I-pill? Will I get it at any medical store without a doctor’s consent slip as I do not want my family to get involved in this?
