Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had sex with my partner yesterday and my partner noticed blood on him. My period is due for another two weeks I've been bleeding since yesterday and the consistency isn't that of a period and it's heavier than spotting. I've also had severe lower abdominal pain since yesterday and I've been extremely bloated these past three days. I'm currently on Risperidone and Zoxadon.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I can imagine the irregular bleeding can be distressing. Since your periods isn’t expected for another two weeks, I still recommend that we do a urine pregnancy test to rule out a pregnancy that may be aborting. Once we rule out a pregnancy we may focus on other causes of midcycle bleeding. As I can see you’re on two medications that are known to cause menstrual irregularities as well. I would like to know the duration you’ve been on them and also some details about your prev periods their regularity etc An uncommon cause of bleeding post sex can be a polyp or growth on the cervix which bleeds post sex, hence we need to do a per speculum examination and a Pap smear as well to rule out malignancy. If the bleeding is heavy while you do the tests you may take this medication tablet Tranexamic Acid 500 mg three times a day till bleeding stops. Do follow up with pregnancy test results.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
