Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had bleeding on my first intercourse and I thought it was because of the hymen break and had bleeding for around two days only during bowel elimination. I had my second intercourse one day before, during which I had bleeding and we stopped. There is around two months gap between my first and second intercourse. Is it normal to have bleeding during intercourse or is it due to any other reason? Kindly guide me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I understand your concern and will surely guide you.

There are chances of bleeding in the first intercourse for the female partner due to tearing of the hymen. Bleeding during the subsequent intercourse may be a sign of infection but in your case it may not be the cause as you had a gap between the intercourse. When there is a gap between the first and the second intercourse there are chances of bleeding which will also depend on other factors like lubrication, the method, etc. Also, about 9 percent of women experience bleeding on subsequent intercourse too. So, it should not be a thing of concern unless you have other symptoms like unusual discharge and foul odor from the vagina.

Kindly revert back if you have more queries. Thank you.

Is it okay to have intercourse after bleeding?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com

There is no problem in having intercourse even after bleeding. But, use condoms as there are chances of transferring infections from male to female or vice versa while bleeding. Sometimes people even have intercourse during periods which is understood to have reduced cramps and migraine.

Thank you.
