Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was having a normal period flow but I had intercourse within the fourth day of my period, following which my periods stopped after three to four days, although spotting continued. After three days, I had another intercourse but then it caused pain in my lower abdomen and I started bleeding the very next day. I also have PCOD. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

As per your description, these symptoms could be due to hormonal imbalance but they could also be due to pregnancy (though the chances are very low). But as you missed your period, it could be an anovulatory cycle (due to hormonal changes) or due to pregnancy (if precum contained sperm). You should take a home urine pregnancy test after seven days of your missed period date or blood beta hCG testing to rule out pregnancy. If not pregnant then it could be due to hormonal imbalance. You can wait and watch for your menses or you can take progesterone for withdrawal bleeding. Also, get your thyroid profile and hemoglobin test for any hormonal changes.

Hope you found this useful and feel free to ask for more information.

Thanks and take care.
