A urine pregnancy test can be positive even after four to six weeks of miscarriage. So it is not confirmatory. Doing an ultrasound of a live pregnancy is confirmatory. You need to check whether the pregnancy is still placed inside the uterus or expelled out. If the pregnancy is viable, your doctor will give you injections to sustain your pregnancy. It is advisable to consult a gynecologist as soon as possible so that appropriate evaluation and management can be done accordingly. Even though the chances are less as the bleeding has occurred very early in the pregnancy, seeing a scan helps in confirming it. It cannot be confirmed only by the evidence of bleeding.

No, it is not that it cannot be detected. As you already had some bleeding very early in pregnancy with a scan showing some cyst, the confusion mostly comes about it being either ectopic or a miscarriage.
