Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have bleeding from my gums when the cold, hot and sweet water hit my teeth. Two days before I had pain in my one molar tooth in the right jaw. Kindly give me advice and suggest me medicine for getting rid of pain and bleeding gums.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query. You have mentioned two situations and let me cover one by one.

Firstly, bleeding gums. This is due to inflamed (simply, swollen) gums. The most probable cause is calculus (hard deposits) and plaque (soft deposits) irritating your gums. The treatment for this is to get a professional cleaning (scaling) done by a dentist. You can do lukewarm salt water gargling to give some relief to the gums. Mouthwash (preferably, Chlorhexidine) can be used but use it after diluting it with water and once or twice daily till the gum condition is very severe. After that, you can continue just lukewarm salt water gargling, as Chlorhexidine can cause teeth discoloration. Next, pain in the molar. This can be due to deep caries (cavity) or an impacted tooth, or simply because of the inflammation of the gums covering the partially erupted tooth (pericoronitis), or some other cause. This can be confirmed only after examination. Kindly send a picture of the affected tooth to guide you with a provisional diagnosis. X-ray (IOPA or OPG) and clinical examination will be required for final diagnosis. The treatment will depend upon the condition or diagnosis. It can either go for root canal treatment or filling or removal or just scaling might be enough. Do you have any difficulty in mouth opening, pain during sleep, any swelling, fever, pus discharge, lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph node below the angle of jaw), sinusitis, or any other symptoms or problems? Do you smoke or consume tobacco? If yes, try to avoid it slowly and get rid of it as these can also cause gum inflammation, destruction of tooth-supporting structures and bone loss, in turn leading to tooth mobility and tooth loss, and cavities too, and other mouth problems. Take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
