Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Recently, I went to a nearby hospital for blood grouping. I am concerned if blood grouping needs a whole syringe of blood as the technician did, or was he collecting my plasma for any other purpose without my consent. I am not sure if it was a 10 ml or a 20 ml syringe.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

A technician collects more blood than required because sometimes the test for blood grouping gets errors and needs more blood. If he had taken only a tiny amount and an error occurred, you would have to give the sample again. So to avoid that, he took more than required. Plasma required for any therapeutic purpose is always more than 250 ml; 10 ml or 20 ml will not help him at all. So do not worry; his intentions were not wrong.

I hope this helps.
