Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 49 year old male with a height of 5' 2" and weight of 176 pounds. I have FBS of 78 mg/dL , and PP of 178 mg/dL, HbA1c of 7 %. Am I a diabetic? How to reduce my PP blood sugar and HbA1c level? Should I follow a restricted diet low on rice and bakery products?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. You are not diabetic but your blood sugar levels are in the pre-diabetes range. Your weight also seems to be on the higher side, so lifestyle changes can help you in a number of ways. Avoid outside food as far as possible, and eat home cooked food. I recommend that you avoid all forms of processed sugar (please read the labels on any packed food item to look out for added sugar). You can take sugar in its natural form (fruits), kindly avoid fruit juices (packed or fresh), eat the fruits in their natural form. If you are eating too much rice, you can try to reduce intake, but there is no need to avoid rice completely. Try to eat three portions of vegetables for one portion of rice in every meal. You can measure this out using cups. Drink lots of water to avoid confusing thirst signals for hunger. Exercise daily. Do whatever type of exercise you like walking, jogging, yoga, gym, aerobics, dance, any exercise is good. But do it for 45 minutes at a stretch for at least five days in a week. Eat lots of raw vegetables in the form of salads. Regulate meal times, eat at the same time every day. Finish dinner two hours before you sleep. Regulate sleep time. Sleep and wake up at the same time every day. Reduce screen time. Switch off all electronic gadgets, phone, TV, etc., one hour before you sleep. Follow these tips for two months. Then tell me about your weight loss success and your blood sugar returning to normal. I wish you all the best.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
