Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Our 9-year-old daughter had her annual eye exam today. In the exam, her prescription was determined to be the same as her previous one. However, for several weeks she has been complaining that things are blurry. Sometimes she says she can see things far away and other times she cannot. At the exam, she had a hard time reading the larger lines at times. She says that she can sometimes only see people's general shapes. Our optometrist said everything with her eyes looked fine from the exam and that things were "inconclusive." She referred us to see a pediatric optometrist. I wanted to do some research to get an idea of what we should be asking the optometrist at our daughter's next appointment and I am curious as to what they might prescribe to remedy things.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If your child is complaining then she must be having some problems. Firstly, children nowadays are too much into digital gadgets and LED screen all of which can cause eye dryness. This can lead to sometimes things being blurry and then clear again when they blink a few times. However, it would not be so much of blurriness that she will struggle to see general shape form. Hence, it is imperative to ask for dilated retinoscopy to check your child's glass power when you visit Pediatric optometrist. If the glass power is fine, I suggest you get the retina checked up by an eye surgeon as she might require VEP and ERG test to confirm if there is indeed a problem.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
