Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have small lesions near the groin area. I just noticed this three days ago. It is not very painful but a little irritating with little pus.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen your query and the image as well. (attachment removed to protect patient identity).

I need to know some more details about your problem that will help in appropriate management.

  1. Do you have diabetes?
  2. Do you have a fever?
  3. Did you get any injury, trauma there or a bite? Or it just started as a boil and further had pus and all?

Kindly get back with the above details in order to modify treatment if required.

Until then follow the following management:

1. Wash the area with warm water and soap two to three times a day.

2. Avoid spreading the pus in nearby area that may increase the wound.

3. Apply warm compression if very painful.

4. Apply topical antibiotics ointment like Mupirocin or any that is available in your country.

5. Oral antibiotics tablet Augmentin (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) 625 mg twice a day for three days.

Review with above details.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I am overweight but I do not have diabetes, it just started as a small ulcer. I feel it is increasing in size. I do not have any fever, I feel fine other than this. Mild pus is also observed. Should I be worried about this being an STD / STI?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It looks like a boil as of now. You need not worry about STD (sexually transmitted disease) presently. Is there any history of such exposure in the recent past with an unknown partner? If yes, and you suspect then you need to get evaluated for STD.

The cream you are using is antifungal probably. Get antibacterial ointment as I mentioned earlier. Start oral antibiotics as mentioned in my previous message. Once you get evaluated for diabetics as well if not done before. Start workout, lifestyle modification, and diet control for your weight reduction.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
