Common "Bone Infection" queries answered by top doctors | iCliniq

Bone Infection

Bone infection or osteomyelitis is caused by Staphylococcus aureus, most commonly, which travels through the bloodstream and enters the bone to cause an infection. In children, long bones of the arms and legs are more prone to bone infection. Fever, chills, redness, fussiness, swelling, and stiffness of the affected area are the common manifestations of bone infection. Blood tests, urine culture, throat swabs, and stool culture are the tests that help in diagnosing bone infection. Antibiotics administration along with surgical removal of the infected site if needed is the treatment for bone infection.
