Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a newborn baby girl born a week ago. It was a normal delivery, and both mother and daughter are doing fine. But for the last two days, she has denied feeding, and I am unsure what to do. She did not poop in the last few days, and when I tried to feed her, she continually cried.

Please help me, doctor.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please try to give top feeds with formula milk if the child is not taking breastfeeding that well. Please note that it is normal for children below the age of 6 months to pass stools 10 to 20 times a day or once in two to three days. Both are fine and are not labeled as constipation or diarrhea. No treatment is required in such cases. Treatment is only needed when there is documented fever, lethargy, or complete refusal to feed. If the child is crying even after top feeds, you will need to get the child evaluated physically by a pediatrician.

Thank you.
