Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I felt a lumpy area in my breast and went and had a screening mammogram and ultrasound. The radiologist said the findings were normal, but one of the ultrasound scans concerned me. It looks like a dark shadow area and in an odd shape. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read the attached image (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It is a normal breast tissue (commenting only based on the attached image). Different shades of grey seen on an ultrasound image depend upon many factors such as the type of tissue being imaged, machine settings, the angle at which the ultrasound beam is striking the tissue, etc.

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I circled the area I was concerned about. Is this normal?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is difficult to comment on something being normal or abnormal based on just one ultrasound image. Usually, if there is a lesion, it should be seen in multiple views. As you mentioned earlier, only one image shows this area, and the rest do not. Therefore it is unlikely that it is abnormal. Rest I am assuming that the radiologist would have had access to the complete set of your ultrasound images and compared those with the mammogram before coming to a final diagnosis.

I hope this helps.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
