Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 41-year-old female with no history of breast cancer in the family. I had my first mammogram four years back with no findings. Six months back, I had my second mammogram and sonomammogram that showed a little mass, possibly benign in nature. Six months later, as recommended, I had another sonomammogram or ultrasound. I have the images, but I am waiting for the radiologist's analysis. I am a bit concerned and anxious about the results. I am not able to feel the mass, but sometimes it is a little painful or uncomfortable. I know that only a biopsy can confirm if it is cancerous, but can you see anything suspicious from the images?

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for writing in, and I understand your concern.

As per the reports attached (attachment removed to protect patient's identity), the nodule is well-circumscribed without any microcalcifications. It is not causing adjacent architectural distortion; therefore, it appears benign from appearance. It has been diagnosed as a fibroadenoma that causes pain sometimes, usually closer to your period. I suggest taking an interval scan after six months to within a year's time, to see any change in its size and characteristics. And in case any change is noticed in the new scan at that time, then a biopsy of the nodule is recommended. I hope you find the reply useful.

Stay safe.

Regards.
