Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Our newborn is refusing to drink milk, but the mother has plenty of breast milk. We tried giving formula milk, however, after a day, the baby began refusing both formula and breast milk.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
As the mother has plenty of breast milk, there is no need for formula milk. Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first six months. Breastfeeding requires the right technique, and the hospital staff or gynecologist has likely explained the correct feeding position, proper latching, and the importance of burping after feeding.
First-time mothers often face challenges in the beginning, but things usually improve, and the baby will start feeding properly. If needed, you can consult a neonatologist or gynecologist for guidance on breastfeeding techniques. Remember, breast milk is very important for newborns. If the mother has enough milk, only breastfeed and continue giving vitamin D drops as advised by your doctor.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
