Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I gave birth to a baby boy and a baby girl last year. I have been unable to breastfeed them. Although my babies are able to latch, they often do not latch effectively. They have been feeding on Aptamil Gold 1 formula since birth. They are now over eight weeks old and are taking approximately 90 ml per feed. They occasionally suckle, but not consistently.
I have a few questions:
Will my babies be at risk for any long-term health conditions due to exclusive formula feeding?
How many gallons of milk are they expected to consume in a day? My baby boy, in particular, seems to have a greater appetite and is often hungry.
What steps can I take to initiate and provide breast milk at this stage?
If I am able to start breastfeeding now and continue for the next four months, will it compensate for the absence of breast milk during the first two months?
Please help me.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
The long-term risk of developing conditions such as asthma, obesity, or diabetes is influenced more significantly by factors such as genetics, environment, and overall lifestyle rather than by feeding choices alone.
An infant typically requires approximately 25 to 33 fluid ounces (0.20 to 0.26 gallons) of formula per day.
Pumping regularly can help stimulate and establish breast milk production.
Although exclusive breastfeeding from birth is ideal, initiating breastfeeding now and continuing for at least four months can still offer meaningful protective and nutritional benefits for your babies.

Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
I would like to ask whether breast milk is produced based on demand or if some women naturally have a low milk supply. I am facing constant humiliation from society due to my low breast milk production. Despite trying various methods, my milk does not come in a large flow. Additionally, my babies are not interested in suckling.
Thank you.
