Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 19-year-old female, and I just have a question. I have been on three-month birth control for over a year, but a few months before, I noticed some brown discharge before my period was supposed to start. I eventually had my period, and it went away. Last month, I had sex and bled during it. I had brown discharge again after. My gynecologist said that it could just be due to birth control. I just started new birth control about a week ago, but I have brown discharge again. I immediately switched from my old birth control to this new one without having a period between. I had my period at the beginning of the last month, and I am having the discharge and bled during sex again. What do I need to do?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

It can be due to any of the following conditions;

1. Vaginal infection (bacterial or fungal) or if you had unprotected sex or improperly treated urinary tract infection.

2. An ovarian cyst, you need to do an ultrasound pelvis to diagnose.

3. Abdomen infection, which an ultrasound pelvis can rule out.

4. Due to the use of contraceptives.

And bleeding can be due to:

1. Infection in the vagina can cause bleed itself or lead to dryness and cause bleeding.

2. Dryness, infection, improper foreplay, dehydration, age factor, hormonal imbalance.

3. Forceful sex.

4. Bleeding disorders.

5. Eczema.

6. Deep penetration in a few positions during sex.

Kindly share more details regarding the above reason. We can work on diagnosis and management.
