Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a Swollen lump on the outside of the right nostril. I had a headache when it began, and this morning, the pain is reduced when I blow my nose. The lump is still there, and it is a bit sore to the touch. I am worried about thrombosis because I have a slight temperature. I am currently taking a tablet Propranolol Amitriptyline. I was given the tablet Mirtazapine Sertraline for a short term of two weeks, tablet Trazodone for ten days. Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As seen in the picture (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), it seems to be inflammatory changes over the skin over the nose, either due to bacteria or some time due to rhinosinusitis. As per the picture, thrombosis is less likely. I suggest the following medication, 1) Tablet Flucloxacillin 500mg four times a day for five days. 2) Tablet Paracetamol 500mg and Ibuprofen 400mg 1 tab for 3 times a day for 3 days. Watch the consistency of the swelling (hard or soft). If any history of fever or no improvement of the symptoms, please visit a local doctor. An infection from the face can spread to the head, leading to meningitis. Apply warm over the swelling. I hope this will help you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

The consistency of the swelling is quite soft but harder towards the middle. I feel fine, but I just wanted reassurance that I could go to sleep without worrying about anything. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you can be at ease. I want you to be cautious and watch for the danger signs like fever or redness increase in that area. If you have any Tylenol (Acetaminophen) tablet with you, it will help you to reduce the inflammation over the skin. Apply warmth over the skin. Otherwise, you do not have to worry. It will resolve within 1 or 2 weeks. I hope it helps. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
