Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a bump on my uvula; I noticed it five days ago. The first day there was a slight pain. Now there is no pain. What could be the reason?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I have read your query. There is a minor bump or swelling on the right lateral aspect of the uvula. The mucosa of the mouth appears slightly congested but more normal and healthy, and the uvula mucosa appears the same as the rest of the oral cavity. There is no pus in the swelling. The uvula does not appear to be swollen. I have a few questions for you.

  1. Do you have a recent oral infection or pharyngitis?
  2. Do you have a habit of smoking?

I suggest you to follow a few things mentioned below.

  1. Do a lukewarm water gargle with a pinch of salt and rinse your mouth.
  2. Avoid spicy food and hot beverages.

Kindly revert back with the answers.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Here are the answers to your questions.

  1. I have no infection or pharyngitis.
  2. I do not smoke.
  3. I drink once a week.
  4. I also deal with acid reflux often.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It would be best if you tried to avoid beer intake as it triggers gastric acid reflex. Chronic gastric acid reflex can sometimes cause swelling in the uvula, but there is nothing concerning about the minor swelling at present on the uvula.

  1. Avoid known food triggers for acid reflex and take medication for acid reflux regularly.
  2. As I mentioned in the above reply, kindly do a lukewarm water gargle with a pinch of salt in it three times a day and avoid hot and spicy beverages for better and faster resolution of symptoms.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
