Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is this bump beneath my tonsil a lymphoid aggregate? Please find a copy of the attached picture below. I was seeing a cavity in my tooth with light when I came across it, and there are no symptoms associated with it. I do not know how long it has been there before, as I usually do not look so far into my mouth. I use Soolantra cream for my perioral dermatitis, and I do not have other medical issues. But this bump has been there for six weeks since I noticed it, and it has not changed. I want to know what it is, please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for briefing me regarding the problem. I had a detailed look at the picture you have sent (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). The small bump you refer to is indeed a lymphoid follicle aggregate. Your tonsil itself is a lymphoid aggregate. However, in a scenario where there is some constant irritation (causes could be plenty), these aggregates increase in size and do not disappear for ages. Their presence does not indicate anything serious that you need to worry about. Its persistence does not cause harm. However, it tends to get infected, but it can be cut down to a bare minimum if good oral hygiene is maintained. Hope this answers your query. Please do revert if there is anything else that you want to know. Warm regards.
