I have tiny hard lumps on my penis. Are the lumps due to hair follicles or STD?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had noticed small pimple-like hard and sharp to touch lumps on my penis around the Fordyce spots area. I want to know whether it is due to hair follicle or cyst or some STD? I have also tested HIV and VRDL, and the result came negative.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The lumps are looking like infected hair follicles or inflamed sebaceous cysts. But physical examination is important to know the nature of bumps. If they are infected one, antibiotics are required both oral antibiotics and topical antibiotic cream application. Hence, I advise you to consult the dermatologist for examination and further management.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I also want to know that when I googled my problem then some reasons came like herpes or warts. So I want to know as you see the picture is it like that or just you had mentioned in your above answer. Also, I want to tell you that I am suffering from a fungus infection near the scrotum area for a long time. Can this be due to that? I also have an allergy problem due to that I suffered from a sore throat for a month, but after taking anti-allergic tablets, it is gone. These bumps are tiny pin-like. In the picture, it looks big due to stretching.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Herpes will present with blister lesions, and they are filled with water-like fluid inside the lesions. Whereas the warts are small growths and their surface loos like the surface of a cauliflower. Fungus infection will present like a widespread rash in the genital area, there are satellite bumps in surrounding the rash. What I advise you is not to hesitate to consult the dermatologist for a physical examination to start appropriate medication depending on the clinical examination, so that the problem can be treated at this stage and can stop its progression.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I had popped the lump on the penis. Little blood came, but no fluid. I applied Itch guard cream on it, and now it is almost fine. But now I noticed some redness on the scrotum (left upper side of the scrotum and under the penis). So I tested for both types of herpes, and both came negative. I think this redness may be due to sweating as I sweat a lot daily due to gyming. I uploaded the photo. Please tell me what that is, and I doubted genital warts, but it does not look like it.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I went through the picture you sent(attachment removed to protect patient identity). It is looking like a fungal skin infection. Because of excessive sweating and moisture in areas like the scrotum and groin, fungal infection growth can occur, leading to rashes with itching. Keep the site dry and well aerated. Wear loose undergarments to allow some air inside. After taking a bath, wipe the area with a dry clean towel to get that area dried. You can apply an anti-fungal cream thrice daily after consultation with a skin specialist. This application has to be continued until the rash subsides and may require two to three weeks. This is not looking like a genital wart. It is looking like a fungal skin infection only.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
