Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 22-year-old girl and I am suffering from UTI. It has been a year ever since I am taking medication. I have done the tests and taken medication. But still, the infection is not going away. The recent urine culture report is normal now but still I feel a burning sensation in the vagina every time I urinate. Please help. It is adding so much stress.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query, I would like to know a few more details to answer your query better. How frequently do you get these episodes of UTI? When was the last time you did a urine culture, is the organism the same in each culture or different? Do you have other symptoms like frequent urination, and urgency to pass urine? Are you married or sexually active? Have you ever had any evaluation for this problem, like an ultrasound? Have you had a similar problem of repeated UTI in childhood or is it just for the past year? You will need to be evaluated to find out if there is any reason for such repeated infections.

I suggest you get an ultrasound scan and check the residual urine. Also, I would like to see whether you have repeated infections or if is it the same infection that has not been resolved till now, by assessment of your previous reports. Based on the initial tests, any further specialized tests needed may be done. Usually, in young women, it is common to have a recurrence of UTI, if there is nothing abnormal on tests, you will be put on suppressive antibiotic therapy to prevent infections and supplements to reduce reinfection. I suggest that you visit your local urologist for a detailed clinical examination and evaluation of your problem.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
