Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I believe I have herpes. I am so anxious about it, and I cannot believe I am gonna live with this for the rest of my life. I have had burning urination for the last 12 months. I got all types of STD tests and have not had sex in eight months. I have been tested for HPV multiple times. So why did it not show up?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If all the STD (sexually transmitted disease) tests and HSV (herpes simplex virus) tests are repeatedly negative, the chances of HSV (herpes simplex virus) are very low. The lesion may be due to perianal dermatitis. I advise wear loose cotton inner wears. See that there is adequate ventilation. Avoid spicy and irritant foods. Avoid friction and irritation. Avoid frequent rubbing or washing or itching or scratching, or using harsh soaps. Use warm water to cleanse the area twice daily. You can initially use topical antibiotic cream like Fucidin (Sodium Fusidate) cream. You may require a steroid cream if it persists. You can take antihistamines like Cetirizine if is too itchy. You can consult your dermatologist for further examination and management.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply. So it does not look like HSV 2 to you? I will apply something there and keep an eye on it. I am still convinced that it is genital herpes. I am currently on deployment, so I have not got the chance to see a real doctor. I will do full panel blood work when I get the chance. Thank you, sir, and I appreciate the fast response. I know herpes can take some time to have an outbreak. Would this look like one?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As it is persistent for a long time, for nearly three months, it is unlikely to be herpes. Herpes resolves and can recur again. Moreover, HSV (herpes simplex virus) tests are repeatedly negative too. Consult your doctor for further examination and management.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
