Hello doctor,

I am a 20-year-old male. I do not drink or smoke. Maybe I need to exercise more. However, this is a matter of the mind. A few days ago, I had a weird curiosity about the statistics of cancer. At first, I thought it was just a social search that can increase my knowledge, but I did not expect something to happen. Instead of satisfaction of curiosity, anxiety sparked inside me. Because of the numbers, the probabilities, and the research articles (incidence rates, mortality rates, percentage of the population getting, etc.), I got so scared that I encountered waves of anxious thoughts that my loved ones and I will likely to get one anytime soon. Instead of immediately stopping searching about it, I searched further instead to find optimism this time that can switch my anxiety, but what it did instead it made it worse. I was incapable of doing my daily tasks a few days ago, even eating. But from that point, I finally decided to stopped researching, although urges are still there. A few days after today, my emotions are improved. I get anxious, and the urge to counter-search what I just read comes, but I get over it now better than before. I am still a bit sensitive with the topic. Still, right now, maybe I want to read a perspective from a real professional doctor rather than online articles and health statistics from government sites to bring back my outlook on life before this happened. I apologize if this is not a real medical query, but I just thought hearing from a real doctor will somehow improve my mental recovery.

Repeated episodes of the same thought or multiple thoughts coming while sleeping and lacking sleep are called rumination. This continuous rumination leads to obsessive-compulsive disorder is a type of thought disorder that leads to anxiety.

As per cancer concern, you are very young, well-nourished so 0% chances of getting cancer unless family history present. The most common malignancy symptom are weight loss, nausea, vomiting, abdomen pain, etc. So symptoms may vary according to the type of malignancy. Avoid caffeinated drinks and junk food.

Do yoga and meditation regularly, eat green leafy vegetables and fruits. Still this thought process cause problem to your sleep then you have to consult with your psychiatrist. He will examine and treat you with cognitive behavioral therapy and medical therapy.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
