I have redness, itching, and fluid-filled blisters on the glans penis. Is this candidal balanitis?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I believe I am suffering from candidal balanitis as there is redness on the glans sides and itching on the foreskin. Also, I observed there was a small fluid-filled bump under the glans, but I have applied Candid-B, and I feel better while the ointment is on. I felt a little pain while urinating as well. I am not diabetic, and it is the first time I am facing it. Yes, some white discharge was there a few days ago around the glans area, which I cleaned with a soft cotton cloth, and it was not itching at that time. It started itching later. Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Kindly send an image of the involved area and revert. Without clinical photographs, it is difficult to comment on diagnosis and prescribe treatments.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

It is a little difficult to share the picture of the private part.

Hello,

Welcome back to iclniq.com.

It s very important to diagnose if it is balanitis or herpes genitalis. I would be able to prescribe topical medications only for balanitis without clinical photographs. But for herpes genitalis, I would not be able to prescribe without images since you are giving a history of fluid-filled lesions. It is important to do an examination before diagnosis.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have attached the blisters picture, but it is not there, and the redness is also much better now.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

This looks to be candidal balanitis. Do not apply candid B cream. Consider taking tablet Fluconazole 150 mg daily on alternate days for one week and applying DK gel (Miconazole 2%) twice daily. Keep the area clean and dry. Wash clothes in hot water. If you are sexually active, then your partner should also consider treatment.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I was scared when I heard herpes from you. To my knowledge, I always use protection when sexually active and keep it clean. My wife did not get any white discharge in the course of the activity. Should she get tested? Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to iclinniq.com.

If she is not pregnant, then she should also consider oral and topical medication. Partner management is important to avoid recurrence. Do not worry it is not herpes.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

So should she also take the same medication? And is that discharge not normal?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Mucus discharge is normal, but white sticky discharge is not. Yes, she can take the medication if not pregnant.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
