Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My tonsils feel sore. It looks like a huge canker sore directly hanging on my tonsils.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Tonsil sores are the result of tonsil infection or an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) infection. From how long have you noticed this sore, and do you have any pain in that region?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I get canker sores very often. I have two sores in my mouth currently. I noticed this sore about three to four days back. I can feel extreme pain on uvula.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

After reading all the details, I will be giving you a detailed treatment plan to follow :

1. Canker sores may result from vitamin deficiencies like B12 deficiency, stress, or any dental or ENT pathology. So to prevent these tonsil sores, I suggest vitamin B12, B-complex capsules, or supplements regularly. Multivitamin tablets also usually have B complex, so I would also suggest them daily at night.

2. For the next 15 days, rinse your mouth with lukewarm saltwater. The water should be lukewarm and with concentrated salt to efficiently drain out the tonsil infection. You can do the rinsing couple of times a day.

Patient's Query

Thank you for your kind reply doctor,

What can I do to relieve pain?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

For the pain, I would suggest-

1. Antibiotic prophylaxis - capsule Amox 500 mg (Amoxicillin 500 mg) twice daily after breakfast and dinner (if you are not allergic).

2. Painkillers- tablet Ibuprofen or tablet Nucoxia P (Etoricoxib 60 mg with Paracetamol 325 mg) twice daily after breakfast and dinner.

You need to take this course for three to five days until your tonsil infection comes down. I would also suggest-

1. Brush your teeth twice daily.

2. Get your oral prophylaxis done regularly at a dental clinic at least once a year.

3. Use a Chlorhexidine 0.12 % mouthwash twice a day for the next three months to get rid of bacterial or viral infections impacting the oral cavity. These microorganisms create canker sores on the uvula or tonsils too. So mouthwash and saltwater rinsing every day will help.

I hope I was able to clear all your doubts.

If you have any further doubts, feel free to ask.

Thank you.
