Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My brother has been having dengue fever for the past week. His platelet count was 20,000 three days ago. They increased to 26,000 in the morning but reached 13,000 in the evening. He was given RDP, but the platelet count was 11,000 in the morning, even after transfusion. It has now increased to 17,000. Is this a sign that he is recovering? When should we expect his platelet count to return to normal?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If the fever spikes are normal for three days, the chances of improving platelet count are quite high. There could be bleeding tendencies when the platelet count is low. After the transfusion, platelets started to increase, which is a good sign.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

The fever has been normal for two days, and there are no other symptoms of bleeding. What is the expected recovery time?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It all depends on your immunity. Once the platelets start increasing, they will not lower. Preferably there should not be any fever spikes. Encourage him to take oral fluids. Mostly in another four days, he will be alright.

Take care of your brother.

I hope for a speedy recovery.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
