Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had unprotected sex with a woman of unknown status 35 days ago. I took a few tests today morning. Attached are the results. Is there anything to worry about regarding the slightly hazy color of the urine? There is no pain or burning sensation while urinating or during sex or ejaculation. I am having a lot of anxiety. Kindly advise. Thank you.

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for the query. The tests are within normal ranges (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). Though the chances of tests coming positive later are very low, you can go for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), HCV (hepatitis C virus) antibodies, HBsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen) tests after three months of exposure to be relieved anxiety totally, and conclusive results (as these are not considered conclusive after 35 days exposure). Drink more water and fluids. Maintain genital hygiene.

Hope for the best .

Patient's Query

Hi doctor, Thank you for the reply.

I have a few questions: What is the significance of the index value (0.2xx, 0.5xx, etc.)? Is it possible for an HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) 4th Gen Combo test to come back positive after five weeks (today, I complete the exact five weeks of exposure)? Is the slightly hazy urine a matter of concern? Can this be because of STDs(Sexually Transmitted Disease)? Do I need to test for Gonorrhea, Syphilis, and Chlamydia? I have no symptoms of these.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thank you for the follow-up query. You need not worry about index values once it is negative. It will not matter. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) antibodies can be formed within 2 to 6 weeks post-exposure. So it may be better to go after three months of exposure for conclusive results and be relieved of anxiety. Hazy urine may be normal as pus cells are within normal limits. You can go for tests mentioned as a routine and as a baseline to be relieved of anxiety.

Thank you.
