Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife, who is 29 years old is having a cold allergy problem. She is suffering from countless sneezing from last two days with a watery eye and runny nose. The situation becomes worse when she touches any cold thing or touches cold water or in a dusty environment. Kindly suggest some remedy for this.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Can you please tell me regarding a few details as follows:

  1. Is this thing recurring every time or just isolated episode?
  2. Did she have any previous similar episodes?
  3. Any history suggesting viral infection like fever, malaise or a sore throat?
  4. Has she taken any treatment?

Till then she can take Oxymetazoline nasal drops every six hourly, Sinarest (Chlorpheniramine, Paracetamol, etc.) tablets two times a day for three days. This can cause a bit of sleepiness but will definitely help in relieving her symptoms.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

  1. Yes, it is recurring every time mainly during a cold day and dusty environment.
  2. There is a history of a sore throat.
  3. No treatment has been taken.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It looks like a seasonal viral infection. Dust, smoke, ice cream or too many sweets, all these cause damage to the respiratory lining and make you prone for infection. I would advise you to take the above treatment for five days. Usually, such infections are self-limiting. As every year the strain of virus changes, chances are that you might get throat infection every year. To avoid this, avoid dust and smoke in the winter season as much as possible. Use masks. Does she have any lung problem or prior lung infection? As in such cases, the recommendation is to take vaccination against influenza to avoid severe infections.
