Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am mom of two kids, 12-year-old and 2-years-old. I am still feeding the younger one. I have had a cold for the last four days. There is no fever and no sore throat. Just cold, sneezing, one blocked nostril, feeling like mucus is chocked in the upper respiratory system in the nose-throat passage, watery eyes, and feeling fresh. I had a Coller F tablet once daily but still above symptoms continue.

Please advice.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and am sorry for such acute discomfort. You have mentioned sneezing and unilateral nasal blockage for four days as the main complaints. However, you do not have any sore throat or fever. This is the common cold or acute allergic rhinitis. Coller F tablet contains Chlorpheniramine maleate, Paracetamol, and Phenylephrine and usually helps resolve the above symptoms of rhinitis. Do not worry. It would subside with properly taking care of yourself in two to three days.

I would suggest the following:

1. Tablet Levocetirizine one tablet before bedtime for three to four days.

2. Tablet Paracetamol 500 mg once or twice a day if you have a headache or body ache. If there is no such headache or body ache, you can skip taking the Paracetamol tablet.

3. Do steam inhalation two times a day with Vicks vaporub.

4. Apply Vicks vaporub gel on the external surface of the nose three times a day. It relieves nasal congestion.

5. Blow out nose frequently to clear mucus collection.

6. Wear a mask to prevent the spread of sneezing droplets in the surrounding.

7. Avoid eating cold food or water or ac in the room.

8. If you are allergic to dust or anything which aggravates sneezing episodes, avoid such triggers. I suggest Montair LC (Montelukast and Levocetirizine) one tablet a day before bedtime. You can take it for one week if necessary. But I think medicine will have its effect on controlling symptoms soon. It will dry up the nasal secretions, which might make you feel a blocked nose, so continue doing steam inhalation. Avoid if there are any allergy triggers.

I hope you find my reply helpful and guiding. Please follow up if you have any further related queries. Take care. Thanks.
