Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have attached the CT report of my mother. Could you please verify the reports and suggest the best treatment for her?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand that you must be very upset while seeing these reports.

The CT (computed tomography) scan findings are raising the possibility of colorectal cancer, although it needs to be proven in the biopsy (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). You did not upload the colonoscopy report since it will help decide the treatment she is supposed to undergo.

It seems stage 3 colorectal cancer on CT scan, and the treatment would be surgery followed by chemotherapy for at least four cycles. Now the type of surgery depends upon the rectum involvement. For that reason, I need you to share with me the colonoscopy report.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for reply.

I have attached the colonoscopy reports for your reference.

Regards.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Both of your uploads are not colonoscopy reports. One is a biopsy requisition form, and another is a CT scan requisition form. Ask your doctor to provide you a printed report of the colonoscopy and share it with me.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

Please find the attached colonoscope image. Kindly suggest how soon and what type of surgery is better.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, I have seen the report. It seems the rectum is not involved. However, the CT scan is showing rectum involvement. I am not satisfied with the colonoscopy report quality since the endoscopist did not mention the length of the tumor. It is essential to know if the upper part of the rectum is spared of cancer or not.

The recommendation for her further treatment are as follows;

She should go for colectomy with lower anterior resection (LAR) and lymphadenectomy to remove more than ten lymph nodes and colostomy. It should be followed by chemotherapy.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Please go through the biopsy report and advice on the possible diagnosis.

Answered by Dr. Ajeet Kumar

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have seen the attached biopsy report. It shows adenocarcinoma meaning cancer of the sigmoid colon. The treatment plan remains the same as previously advised. She should go for colectomy surgery with lower anterior resection (LAR) and lymphadenectomy removing 10 plus lymph nodes, with a colostomy (bag) followed by chemotherapy (if Ro achieved) plus-minus radiotherapy (in case of Ro not achieved). So above is my recommendation for her. I hope she would recover soon after the above treatment.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
