Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 22 years old female, weight 52 kg, height 5'4". I have randomly done my CBC, WBC is 11800 cells/cumm but my differential count is normal, hemoglobin is 13.8 g /dL. RBC is 4.64 mill/cumm (normocytic normochromic) platelets are 2.73 lakhs/cumm. Do I have blood cancer? I am in depression for two months, visited eight doctors regarding this and I feel I have symptoms of it after googling about leukemia. However, I used to do an excessive workout for one and a half hour and now, have stopped going to the gym. I feel I have knee pain and no health issues earlier.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

No, it is not leukemia. Mild elevation of WBC is seen in infection, may be symptomatic or asymptomatic, or sometimes this is normal for some individuals. So, there is no indication of leukemia in this report (attachment removed to protect patient identity). In leukemia, the count is much higher say, 40 to 50 thousand. Also, other symptoms of leukemia should be present like fever, weight loss, lumps in axilla or groin (large). So, you should get it repeated once to look for normalization of the count.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I am extremely scared to do the test again. It has been two months since I got the test done. Just curious to know if others also have a count as mine or did you come across any such case with WBC 11800 and no symptoms of any infection and also I think I have sinus. My eyebrow and nose ache and I get yellow color mucus. Sometimes, I see a black thread like thing in it. I have a picture which I would like to share. I am hoping that I do not have leukemia.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is a mucus and it is likely you have a sinus infection, which may or may not cause symptoms all the time but may elevate the count. We see so many patients daily with a mildly elevated count in the range of 11000 to 15000, and the majority of them settles in a week or two. It is not leukemia in all probabilities, you should get it repeated and your fear should vanish. You are worrying unnecessarily.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I also get mucus in my stool like so much that I can notice. What could that be?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Mucus could be there normally as well and usually, in most of the cases, it is just a normal variant. However, sometimes worm infestation, inflammation of bowel can cause it, but other symptoms would be present. However, it is better to deworm yourself once with tablet Bandy plus (Albendazole) bedtime once and repeat after two weeks.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Just curious to know 0.2 eosinophil is an allergic reaction? As seen, my other differential count is normal and a week before going to CBC test, I had muscle pain because of the gym.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, it is less than six percent. It is increased in case of allergies. While less than normal does not have much significance.
