Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a C-section four months back, and I delivered a healthy baby, but unfortunately, we lost him to SIDS. After four months; I am a month pregnant now. Could I continue the pregnancy? Will it be safe for both of us? I wanted to know whether my uterine stitches will be healed by now?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I am incredibly sorry for your loss.

It is advisable to avoid pregnancy at least for 12 to 18 months after a c-section because it takes a long span for the uterine scar to gain at least 85 percent of the strength back. As you are already pregnant, it is risky to induce abortion in your case. My suggestion would be to visit a gynecologist, get a scan done to examine the present scar thickness. If it is more than the cut off then continue the pregnancy. Still, there is a one to two percent chance of scar rupture. If you go for termination of pregnancy, it would be advisable to do a surgical method of termination. I hope this was helpful. If you have any queries, kindly revert.

Regards.
