Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 19 years old. I had sex with my partner two days ago. We were protected. He told me that he even pulled out on time. But, it was our first time, and hence we were clumsy and all. And now I am kind of paranoid about getting pregnant. I have looked up other options which suggest taking a birth control pill, but since it has other side effects too, I am not actually in favor of taking it. My period is in two weeks, and since the symptoms of pregnancy and PMS are almost the same, I am worried. Maybe it is just because it was the first time but still, should I take a pill? Or should I just leave the situation as it is?

Kindly advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Since there was no ejaculation, there is no chance of pregnancy. But, if you have a doubt then take an emergency contraceptive pill within 72 hours of intercourse. There is no chance of pregnancy. However, if you have a doubt then get back to me.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I am not sure whether I should take the pill or not. I have an important exam next month and I always get painful periods hence I am concerned that the period might mess up with my cycle. Should I take it anyway?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Considering the risk versus benefit ratio, it is better to take the pill. As you will not have any doubt. You will have a bit delayed or early period, which will settle down in the next cycle. So, please go ahead and take the emergency pill within 72 hours of intercourse. There is no chance of pregnancy.

I hope you found this helpful.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have made an appointment with a doctor who said she would give me some medicines to make my this month period come sooner just to avoid any disturbance during my exams. Is it safe to take the medicines even after taking the I-pill?

Answered by Dr. Neha Rathod

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

In case you are planning to take the medication given by your doctor, then just confirm that they are hormonal pills or not. In case she is giving you some supplements then there is no problem. But hormonal pills can cause hormonal changes and mess up your periods. Let me know what medication you are starting with.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
