Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My menstrual cycle occurs on the 5th of every month. I had unprotected intercourse before one month, so I took ipill within five hours. I got bleeding after ten days; for about two to three days, the bleeding was less when compared to my regular period. Then I did not get a period on the 5th of next month, so I took a urine pregnancy test after three days which was negative. Can I know when will I get periods? Was the bleeding which happened a few days back my menstrual cycle? Please help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern and will surely help you. You have made an intelligent choice to take the emergency contraceptive pill within five hours since you wanted to prevent unplanned pregnancy. Further, the bleeding you experienced was most likely the withdrawal bleeding. The pregnancy test has already come negative, so not to worry about that aspect. Now I would like to tell you that emergency contraceptive pills are hormones based, and they have this known side effect of delaying periods in particular females. So you may expect a delay of up to two weeks for your next period. But do not worry about that and do not be stressed out because stress is the cause of delay in periods of 25 percent of females worldwide. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Is there any chance of pregnancy kit failure? I have tested with two kits, and in both, the results were negative, is there any chance of pregnancy, and does pregnancy occurs after withdrawal bleeding?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for sharing additional details. Post one month of intercourse and having tested with two kits with negative results, there is no chance of pregnancy. In addition, you experienced withdrawal bleeding, so there is almost negligible chance or rather no chance of pregnancy.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I took a pregnancy test after 20 days of intercourse. And should I take any medicine to get regular periods?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Since you took the emergency contraceptive pill during the first 15 days, post your period, when the estrogen is more so, you can count 30 days from the date when you got bleeding and expect your complete regular period after 30 days. Please do not take any medicines. The pregnancy test is already negative, so there is nothing to worry. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I had pain during bleeding after taking the contraceptive pill, and there was no pain after two days of bleeding.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is fine and do not worry about that. Was the pain to the extent that it affected your daily routine, or was it bearable?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Previously I consulted you, and I have not gotten my periods until now; I have taken a urine pregnancy test, which is negative. How should I know that I am not pregnant? Before one and half months, I took ipill, and after eight days I got bleeding which is less compared to periods, I have pain on bleeding, and still, now I have not got periods mam, I am getting tensed. Please help.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hello,

Welcome back to iclinq.com.

How are you doing? Do not worry; as discussed earlier, you can expect your period in a week. Stress or tension leads to delay in periods of 25 % of females worldwide, so do not take tension; it will only delay further. Also, you have already taken a pregnancy test which is negative, so there is nothing to take tension as it is. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information. Do not worry; you will get your periods soon.

Regards. .

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Will my period be delayed for a few weeks? Does the urine pregnancy test give accurate results?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I do not think it will get delayed in weeks, at best a few days, or else we will prescribe medicines. Yes, a urine pregnancy test is accurate if appropriately done, especially after a month plus of intercourse. Do not worry, just stay cheerful. God bless.

Hi doctor,

When should I consult you if periods are delayed more than a few days?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It will be ideal if we wait for a week after a month post your last period. So I request you to pls discuss this with me after a week. Praying for your good health. God bless.
