Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have severe depression following a bereavement. I started to drink, and it has been a couple of days now. I am terrified of stopping it. I am taking Maxitram and Fluoxetine 60 mg. I took Librium and Omeprazole before few days.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The symptoms associated with alcohol withdrawal are managed by Benzodiazepines such as Librium (Chlordiazepoxide) or Clonazepam or Lorazepam. Depending upon the severity of withdrawal symptoms, the doses can be adjusted, so that you will not have the feel of withdrawal symptoms and can safely stop taking alcohol. Usually, Thiamine is advised because alcohol causes thiamine deficiency. So it is advisable to take Thiamine 100 mg three times a day. As you have recently started taking alcohol, so the withdrawal symptoms will not be too severe. Benzodiazepines reduce anxiety symptoms and help you to feel relaxed. Continue taking Fluoxetine for depression. Have an adequate sleep.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
